Talent Doesn't Need An Excuse

Two very talented people; Bullis and Roso on set discussing their work
I am in the middle of reading one of the best scripts I have ever read.  It is clear, concise, intelligent and relevant.  The characters are interesting, powerful, weak and in constant conflict.  Choices must be made and bad ones must be endured.
I love this script.  I wish it were one of my own.  When I began reading it; I had just read seven or eight others and this one jumped off the page like a Frazetta hero in dire straits.  I could not put the script down until I had read it through and then I read it again.
That's what talented people do, they create work that moves you and makes you want to achieve the same results with your own work.
Talent doesn't need an excuse, it just exists for it's own sake and then knocks us off our feet.  Kudos to this writer, she deserves all of the rewards and accolades her talent will surely gain for her.
Until next time, Filmmakers First.

  2. It's great to read a good script! Like seeing the movie in your head. Can't wait to see the scene read at AOF - love that your fest does that!

  3. What a great blog, I LOVE AOF! Thank you Del!!! I love how AOF searches through piles of films for the greatest of scripts and then gives them a chance to be seen, heard, felt and even honored at the amazingly classy award show! I hope I can make it out this year. For the past two years at AOF, I have made a family of film makers, screen writers, actors, directors, producers, the list is neverending.. and full of creatives that will be there for life. A film festival family of Creative Doers to collaborate with, to inspire/be inspired by, to create/produce and encourage me for the rest of my creative art making days. Like Karen Bullis, in the picture above.. we caught her film, The Grover Complex, at Bare Bones 2010. I was convinced that her, Claire Wasmund and Fernando Noor (plus about 2 dozen other film makers) must come to AOF 2010 to join the my new found family we had made the year before AOF 2009. AOF gets my blood pumping and full of throttle.. (I feel an AOF blog coming on ::)
Well to make this comment short, Karen and all the other cats from Bare Bones came to AOF 2010 and extended the family even larger! Karen took me to Venice Beach last year, found me a super sweet couch to crash a night and gave me a ride to LAX to head home to DFW. I learned so many things from The Bullis last year, I look up to her talent and huge heart so much. I see the Action On Film Festival not only the best way to experience your film in a festival with a huge range of a other genre films. but also the greatest way to make friends that are doing what we love in their own way and will be there for you. At least, the fam will be there to support each other annually in Pasadena at the AOF Festival. This year is the 7th Annual Action On Film Festival, July 22-30, 2011. COME JOIN THE FAMILY!! <3
